Anderson Choir End-of-Year Notes

Director’s Notes –  End-of-Year 2012

1.  Calendar

• May 27 – Baccalaureate Service – 3pm – Chorale and Seniors
• May 28 – TSSEC – students who advanced to State Solo & Ensemble Contest
• June 1 – Graduation – 9am – ALL CHOIRS
• August 19 – Choir Pool Party
• September 10 – Choir Everything Night

2.  Uniforms

All uniforms must be returned clean on May 22 or May 23.  To help make sure that all students turn in their uniform one of these days, a grade has been attached.  Please safety pin your student’s name on the uniform to expedite the turn-in process.  Parents will be here to collect/inspect the uniforms before school from 8-9am and after school from 4:15-5pm.  All uniforms are stored in the choir room for the summer.

• Girls – dress is machine washable, please refer to the tag
• Boys – tux jacket and pants must be dry cleaned, tie and vest should not have to be cleaned, tux shirt is machine washable.
• Uniform bags were purchased by the student’s family and are yours to keep.
• Missing and damaged items will need to be replaced at the expense of the student.  The most common item lost is the boy’s bow tie. Replacement cost of the tie is $5.00.  Other items cost significantly more.  Any charges will be communicated to the student when he/she turn in their uniform and will need to be taken care of ASAP.

3.  Placement Auditions

Any student who wants to be in choir will be in choir.  However, if a student wants the opportunity to move to a higher level choir, they must audition.  All students are given the same time frame and resources to prepare for the audition.  Sheet music was handed out in class and is available in the choir room.  Audition cuts are on our website (Requires Login).  Auditions occur during the student’s class period on May 22 and 23.

4.  TSSEC

Performance times were emailed out and are posted in the choir room.  Anderson choir students are competing on Monday, May 28 in the Thompson Conference Center on the U.T. campus.  Students need to arrive at least 20 minutes prior to their scheduled time.  Students need to be dressed nicely and arrive vocally warmed up.  We are arranging for the accompanist, Cynthia Wilson, to come practice with the students at the beginning of next week.  

5.  TSSEC helpers

I need 12 responsible students to help me run the contest at the Thompson Conference Center at U.T. on Saturday, May 26 from 8am-6:30pm and on Monday, May 28 from 8:30am-6:30pm.  It can be a combination of students competing or not competing at the contest. Please see Mr. B.  Responsibilities included:

• Monitor judging rooms/check students in.
• Monitor holding rooms.
• Sharpen pencils/get judges water or soda etc.
• Students will need to bring their own lunch.

 6.  Baccalaureate

This is one of the end-of-year events for seniors.  Chorale and senior choir members sing.

7.  Graduation

This is at the Frank Erwin Center.  We need every choir student to sing with us to carry our sound in the space.  We will sing one song as a choir and lead the school song.  Graduation this year is June 1^st at 9am.

8.  Summer

All-State Camps – We encourage all students who plan to audition in the All-State process next year to attend one of the many camps made available by local universities.  Many universities offer camps.  However, local camps include:

Voice lessons – Students who currently take private voice lessons may continue through this summer.  Please talk with your teacher. Students who are interested in starting voice lessons over the summer should see Mr. B. ASAP.
